On 27 July, the CBD Women's Caucus and partners hosted a side event at SBSTTA-28 in Nairobi on closing the gender data gap in biodiversity monitoring under the KM-GBF. Moderated by Ruth Spencer, speakers examined why women's knowledge and labor remain largely invisible in biodiversity data, and what it would take to change that.
From 4–7 July, the CBD Women's Caucus joined the Biodiversity Policy and Alliance Building Meeting in Janda Baik, Malaysia, convened by Third World Network and GYBN. Represented by Meenal Tatpati, the Caucus pushed feminist perspectives into discussions on biodiversity loss ahead of COP17, calling for women to be recognized as rights holders and political actors — and for the Gender Plan of Action and Target 23 to move beyond participation toward real power-sharing and accountability.
The CBD Women's Caucus participated in the Second Session of the Ad Hoc Expert Team on Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture (Rome, July 2026), calling for gender-responsive reporting and sex-disaggregated data to make women's contributions to biodiversity visible.
