🌺 Background
The «COP16 training: A guide for women and allies» is a series of three virtual sessions, each lasting two hours, to prepare the Caucus members and allies for active participation in the upcoming CBD COP16. These sessions are designed to provide knowledge on the CBD framework, the significance of COP16, and the negotiation processes involved, with a strong focus on gender justice in biodiversity governance.
Interpretation was provided in English, Spanish, and French to ensure accessibility for all participants across different regions.
🌺 Objectives
To support members of the CBD Women’s Caucus and allies with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective participation in CBD COP16, thereby strengthening our collective advocacy for gender justice.
- Capacity Building: Provide comprehensive training on the CBD framework, COP processes, and the role of women in biodiversity governance.
- Strategic Engagement: Equip participants with strategies to engage effectively in COP16 negotiations and influence outcomes.
- Network Strengthening: Foster connections among CBD Women’s Caucus members to enhance collaborative advocacy efforts.
🌺 Recordings
Session 1
This session provided an introduction to the CBD, its governance structure, and the outcomes of COP15 related to gender. Participants gained a foundational understanding of the CBD’s role in biodiversity governance and the importance of gender equity in this context.
Session 2
Participants learnt about the structure and significance of COP16, including the negotiation processes and key agenda items. This session prepared members to engage meaningfully in the discussions and negotiations that will take place at COP16.
Session 3
This final session focused on practical skills, such as navigating the COP16 website and understanding the negotiation’s documents. The session also outlined the CBD Women’s Caucus’s strategic focus and engagement plans for COP16.
