Following the adoption of Decision 16/31 on the Monitoring Framework for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF), the CBD Women’s Caucus submitted recommendations to strengthen the methodology for the headline indicator on land tenure and land-use change.
The submission calls for a gender-responsive and rights-based approach to measuring land tenure, highlighting the importance of sex-disaggregated data, collective and customary tenure rights, women’s perceptions of tenure security, and the specific rights and realities of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. It emphasises that secure land tenure is fundamental to women’s rights, effective biodiversity stewardship, and the equitable implementation of the KM-GBF.
What we measure shapes what becomes visible—and what informs action. Read the CBD Women’s Caucus recommendations for a land tenure indicator that captures women’s rights, lived realities, and contributions to biodiversity stewardship
